" The sight of our home town approaching on the horizon stirs a multitude of conflicting feelings in us all. Vivid thoughts and images flood our minds and unsettle our stomachs as the train slowly pulls in or as we go down a gear and turn off the motorway. easing back on to familiar roads and pathways leading to what seems like a former lifetime. Does a sense of security prevail-with memories of childhood and family? or perhaps a sense of alienation as our home town stays the same as we continue to change with time? Even more frightening is the awareness that our former home continues to expand, improve and progress without us!!!...."

Life goes on Helaleh Jan. One way to look at life is to miss places we have been, places where we have roots. Another is to only live in "here and now" without ever looking back. My preferred way is to keep ties with places we have been, our roots, traditions, and memories, while looking ahead to a future full of possibilities. Do you know the expression "having the best of two worlds?" As Iranians living in a new land, we can bring all our meaningful and precious learnings from Iran, leaving the darker parts behind, while living and learing and loving our new environment, always trying to do our best to make Iran and Iranias proud. Be good azizam.
